DS New Energy | Updated: Aug 29, 2018

On 25 July 2018, China’s National Energy Administration announced that the country installed a total of 24.3 gigawatts (GW) worth of new PV capacity throughout the first half of the year, made up of only 12.6 GW worth of utility-scale PV system but an impressive 12.24 GW worth of distributed PV system.

On 17 August 2018, the China Electricity Council published updated China photovoltaic (PV) installation capacity in the first seven months of 2018. Despite the reduction in support for PV feed-in-tariff announced on 31 May 2018, the world's largest PV market had installed 31.3 GW of PV by the end of July.

IHS Markit said it didsn’t see any reason to lower the installation forecast for the country any further. The consultancy was confident of China adding another 6 GW to 7 GW of PV systems by the end of 2018.

SolarPower Europe analysts are the most optimistic among their peers – they had forecasted 39 GW of new installations in China in 2018 in their medium scenario of the their Global Market Outlook that was published in June.
