European leaders are calling for stronger steps to improve solar panel production in the region. EU energy and industry ministers held a special meeting to discuss ways to grow Europe's solar manufacturing and reduce its dependence on imported panels on September 30, 2025.

The European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) said the ministers, along with European Commission Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné, recognized solar manufacturing as vital for Europe's clean energy goals and long-term competitiveness. Many ministers also backed the idea of a "Made in Europe" label for public solar projects to promote locally made products.

Following this meeting, the ESIA Annual Meeting brought together policymakers, manufacturers, and financial experts to discuss how to turn these goals into real action. Eike Klapper from the European Commission confirmed that the EU plans to offer financial support, such as tax credits and production incentives, through a new Competitiveness Fund connected to the existing Innovation Fund.

ESMC Secretary General Christopher Podewils welcomed this move but urged the EU to act quickly. He said that while Europe has the expertise and political will, manufacturers need immediate help to stay competitive in the global solar market.

This shows that Europe is serious about building its own strong solar industry to support the economy.
